dismissal without prejudice

a claim, lawsuit, or proceeding has ended temporarily but a decision has not been rendered. For example, if an individual brings a lawsuit in small claims court but the judge determines that the claim is over the amount for that court to have jurisdiction, the lawsuit can be dismissed "without prejudice".
